Description
In 2002 when the Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Plan was passed many declared the Oak Ridges Moraine ‘saved’. Ten years later we are happy to report many successes but also saddened to report that many issues still threaten the Moraine – the headwaters of the Greater Toronto Area. The Foundation’s Measuring Success on the Oak Ridges Moraine project reveals that the Moraine that is holding its own in terms of its environmental health, particularly with respect to its base of natural vegetation and cover. However, five major areas of concern or ‘red flags’ have been identified where deficiencies in current implementation efforts pose serious threats to the effectiveness of the Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Plan and more importantly to the health of the Oak Ridges Moraine ecosystem.
